Strength in Relationships

Strength in Relationships

Van Pelt Construction Services (VPCS) was built on relationships and trust. Before founding the company in 1996, Mark and Mike spent nearly two decades in the industry, earning a reputation for delivering great solutions for their clients and partners across California. When it came time to start their own business, they leaned into the relationships they had built throughout their careers.

From mentors like Dick Adam, a hospital administrator at North Bay who guided them through the ins and outs of hospital construction, to Ed Lampe, one of California’s top CPAs, and Ruth Karlsrud, a longtime client and friend, those trusted relationships guided them through the complexities of starting a company. And, of course, a well-worn copy of How to Start a Corporation for Dummies provided some pointers, but the real blueprint came from the people they trusted most.

Trust and strong relationships have shaped every step of our journey. During the 2008 recession when construction work slowed dramatically and competition was fierce, Mike and Mark’s commitment to these values proved invaluable. Much like then, clients consistently choose VPCS not just because of the history we share, but because they trust us to assemble the right team to get the job done. Our decades of experience give us the ability to anticipate challenges and tap into the expertise of our industry partners, a network we continue to grow and rely on today.

Our professional network is essential to helping clients achieve their goals, and it inspired us to host our very first vendor fair earlier this month. Held at Chardonnay Golf Club on September 12, 2025, the event brought together 23 partners from across the industry for a fast-paced, speed-round format that packed dozens of connections into just a few hours. From DSA pre-check modular design experts and CEQA consultants to moving services and school furniture solutions, the vendor fair gave our team direct access to the partners who help keep projects on track from planning to completion.

Events like this remind us that our partners are an extension of our team and family. Nearly 30 years after our founding, we’re reminded that the relationships that built VPCS will continue to carry us forward.
